The Old Pal is a twist on the Negroni cocktail, and it appears that it was first published in a cocktail book in 1922. It has a bright red color (from the Campari), and is definitely classic in it’s flavor. Try it and enjoy!
Old Pal
- 1 oz rye whiskey
- 3/4 oz dry vermouth
- 3/4 oz Campari
- garnish with a lemon twist
Never heard it called The Old Pal. I know it as the Boulevardier (http://www.backdownsouth.com/2013/10/drink-this-takeover-boulvardier/) What a great cocktail!!
They’re certainly close cousins Caroline! They were both made in the 20’s as far as I can tell, although the Boulevardiers I’ve had were made with bourbon, plus it uses sweet vermouth while the Old Pal uses dry. The vermouth-spirit-sweet ratio is a common one I guess.
